Lydia Lynskey is an engineering student pursuing an Associate of Engineering at Red Rocks Community College, with plans to transfer to the Colorado School of Mines to study civil engineering. She currently works at Cushing Terrell, supporting civil teams through CAD model development under the supervision of licensed professionals. She previously worked as an Engineering Intern at Vivid Engineering, where she conducted field inspections on asphalt, concrete, and soil densities, and assisted with laboratory materials testing.
Lydia’s academic focus is shaped by firsthand experience with wildfire and post-fire flooding impacts on infrastructure. While working as a Senior Wildland Firefighter in New Mexico, she witnessed severe flooding following a wildfire that washed out roads, bridges and swept away entire homes, cutting off communities from emergency access. These experiences motivated her to pursue a career in civil engineering focused on post-fire hydrology, erosion control, and resilient transportation infrastructure.
Through her education and professional experience, Lydia aims to design infrastructure that better integrates stormwater management, watershed restoration, and transportation systems to improve disaster resilience and protect communities in vulnerable landscapes.
